Progress Resumes!

After some time off to gather supplies, health issues and then weather delays, building has finally resumed.

First off the bat in the last week was getting the motor mount cut, glued up and in place. Four layers of 1/2" plywood glued together weights a good bit. It took my wife and I both to hold it in place (at an angle, of course... this is a boat after all, nothing is square) and get it fastened. Once there, I don't think it is going anywhere. Of course, I pointed out to Melanie that if it fell off, we were sinking. Nothing is going to deal with a 2x3' hole in the boat.

Over the next few days Dane and I got the rear 1/2+ of the boat hull bottom cut to shape and ready to install. There is still some fairing and planing to do to make sure it fits smoothly on the frames and chine logs, but that is mostly minor. Cutting and fitting went better than I expected, and I hope to get it fastened down over the next weekend.

Working under cover now keeps us from getting the "long shots" that give a better picture of what is happening, but the weather protection has worked fairly well. I must say a layer of plastic in the sun can certainly heat things up a bit. Makes it much more pleasant to work.

Another big advantage to a "flexible" structure is that when a support is in the way of a long board, you can just move the structure a bit. Important when clearances are tight.
