Boating Blues

.: Glen JusticeGlen Justice

I knew the color of my hull was going to bite me in the transom. After spending a hellish Memorial Day weekend without a boat, I leaned on my boatyard this week to get things wrapped up and get Anonymous Source back in the water.

After a few rounds of phone calls, I learned that they were having trouble matching the deep blue paint. This was odd, because I had called the manufacturer to get them a name and a number associated with the Awlgrip on my hull. I was told Magestic Blue. But the guys at the yard said the this was plainly too dark.

So I tried again. Armed with my hull number, serial number and a few other identifying bits of information, I called Mainship and asked the simple question, "what color is my hull?" This time, I got a different answer: Flag Blue.

I relayed the change to the yard and the work should be underway, though it rained again Saturday, which is not good for guys who paint hulls. Then again, we are not talking about a lot of work here. The scrapes and dings have been fixed. All that is needed now is some touchup paint, a good long day to dry and then a buff before the hull wax goes on.

With luck, the boat will be in the water Wednesday – then the real work begins.
