MAD MARINER ON TWITTER

We here at Mad Mariner are always looking to deliver stories in new ways. Everybody takes their news differently – whether that's on our site, on Facebook, through an RSS reader or some other channel – and we try to accommodate as much as we can. That's why Mad Mariner is now up on Twitter.

Read Mad Mariner's Twitter Page and you will find all the goodies we serve up on the site (the Story of the Day, the Tip of the Day, marine news, video and blogs), except that it's all in that special Twitter format.

For the uninitiated, Twitter is a service that allows people to communicate in short bursts (140 characters, to be exact). It's similar to email or Instant Messaging, but distinct in that communications are intended to be short. Some call it "microblogging."

While it might be easy to dismiss yet another techie service, think again. The first major dispatches on the recent earthquake in China were sent via Twitter, as those on the ground described events around them. Here in the U.S., reporters on the presidential campaign routinely use Twitter. We believe it can be a serious tool. You can watch a very cool Twitter Video to get more acquanted.

Many people use it simply to communicate with each other. We here at Mad Mariner use it as a headline service, putting out a stream of news and stories each day. Because we can file dispatches from a cell phone, we think it has tremendous potential as a way of reporting the news to you from places like boat shows, races and other news events (of course, we still put it up on the site, too).

Twitter is a the latest in a bag full of tools we are assembling to bring you information, the way you want to receive it. Mad Mariner's Facebook Page has more than 550 fans. Our RSS Feeds and Mad Mariner News Boxes have scores of users. Our BoatU.S. News Feed, available to members of BoatU.S., is growing. And there's always the good old home page at MadMariner.com.

That's one thing that will never change.
