MAD MARINER BUYS DIY BOAT OWNER

New Magazine Will 'Significantly Stengthen Our Ability to Serve Readers'

Mad Mariner is proud to announce that we have acquired DIY Boat Owner magazine.

DIY Boat Owner, which was owned by BoatUS, is a quarterly print magazine for do-it-yourself boaters, offering expert advice on maintenance, repairs, upgrades and projects. Published since 1995, the magazine has an archive of more than 1,500 articles and tips.

We feel it is the perfect addition to Mad Mariner. DIY’s focus on learning and self reliance will significantly strengthen our ability to serve readers.

The purchase also adds a print magazine to the Mad Mariner’s growing family of online publications, led by MadMariner.com in English and MarineroLoco.com in Spanish. That allows us to reach a whole new audience of boaters.

Now in our third year, we continue to grow, despite the economy. We’re pretty proud of that, too.

THE NEW MAGAZINE

DIY Boat Owner was founded by the husband-and-wife team of Jan Mundy and Steve Kalman, who sold the magazine to BoatUS in 2006.

DIY is mailed directly to subscribers and sold on the newsstand at West Marine stores. The magazine also offers 14 collections of archived articles on CD-ROM—and soon via download—on its website, as well as a digital edition of the magazine. We plan to maintain DIY’s product line, including the collections and the digital edition, with very few changes.

The first issue of DIY Boat Owner published by Mad Mariner will be available Nov. 12, and will feature a new look for the magazine. We are already working over the website, DIY-Boat.com.

However, the magazine’s editorial focus will not change, including its dedication to championing technical standards set by the American Boat and Yacht Council.

DIY readers are hardcore do-it-yourself boaters who—just like Mad Mariner readers—demand high-quality journalism—and we plan to give it to them.

We’ll work hard to maintain the spirit of the magazine.
