EDITOR'S NOTE: Here is the original contest announcement, reprinted from April 25 in the Room13 Blog for form's sake.

The Docking Game, Mad Mariner's addicting web-based video game, has a new system for high scores that allows players all over the world to compete against each other – so let the games begin!

depth sounderThe prize: a HawkEye handheld depth sounder. To launch the new system, Mad Mariner is sponsoring a week-long high-score competition. The winner will receive a HawkEye hand-held depth sounder by Norcross Marine – one very cool gadget.

To compete, all you have to do is play the game, properly post high scores and follow the contest rules, which are listed below. Read them – it's important. They will tell you the dates of the contest, and some important requirements (for example, you must post scores using your Mad Mariner username).

The Docking Game, which features more than 20 levels of torturous wind and weather conditions, has been played by almost 50,000 boaters since it's launch last year. It has been featured in publications such as Sailing and Chesapeake Bay Magazine, and in online forums like SailingAnarchy.com.

The new high score system is part of a series of upgrades to the game that also included adding a bow thruster to each boat, installing a GPS locator on the dashboard, and adding features such as "pause" and "mute." All are designed to make the game more fun.

So give it a shot – this time, you just might win something.

THE CONTEST RULES

There are a few rules and they must be followed in order to win:

  • All that is required to enter the contest is to play The Docking Game and properly post high scores.
  • No purchase or subscription is necessary, though the game does require players to register for a free 30-day trial with Mad Mariner after Level 4. Registration requires only that you submit your name and email address and that you create a username. No credit card information is required and we respect your privacy.
  • You must use your Mad Mariner username when you post a high score. This is the same username you use to log into the site. Without it, we have no way to verify the winner and no way to contact you if you win. Scores that are posted without a Mad Mariner username will not be considered.
  • The contest begins at midnight today (that's Friday, April 25), and all scores posted prior to that are not eligible.
  • The contest will end at midnight on Thursday, May 1. The winner will be the player who posts the highest single eligible score, as logged on the "All Time" portion of the "High Scores" tab within the game (see photo below).
  • Players can play the game as often as they like in order to compete.
  • Only one winner will be selected. The winner of the contest will be selected by Mad Mariner and notified via email. The winner will also be announced publically on MadMariner.com.
  • Mad Mariner employees are not eligible to enter the contest.
  • The winner must claim their prize by responding to Mad Mariner via email within one week after notification that they won the contest. The prize will then be sent via mail. If the winner fails to respond to Mad Mariner within one week, they will forfeit their prize.
  • In the event that the winner does not come forward to claim their prize, Mad Mariner will declare a new winner based on the scores as logged during the contest period.
  • Only one prize will be awarded.
  • By accepting the prize, the winner agrees that the sponsor, Mad Mariner LLC, and its affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, and its officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents will have no liability whatsoever for, and will be held harmless by winner for any liability for any injury, loss or damages of any kind to persons, including death, and property, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the prize or participation in this contest.
  • Mad Mariner is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, or the failure of any e-mail to be sent or received by Mad Mariner on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site.
  • Mad Mariner is not responsible for any injury or damage to a player's computer, or anyone else's computer, related to or resulting from participation in the Contest.
