Ladies and gentelmen, we have a winner. Ken Worthing, of Seattle, won our first-ever Docking Game high score contest this week, posting a score in the millions and netting himself the prize: a HawkEye hand-held depth sounder by Norcross Marine.
Ken's score – a whopping 3,709,640 – stood atop the All Time high score list when the contest ended yesterday, as the highest score posted according to contest rules. His victory came after a week of intense action that drew more than 1,800 individual players. Shockingly, Ken's score has already been beat! But Ken is our rightful winner.
Our contest was so popular – and so much fun – that we plan to do it again. Tune in right here to The Docking Game Forum each week for the latest contest and rules (like the big one: you have to use your Mad Mariner username to compete). You can also leave complaints, comments and questions. Or, of course, you can skip all the competition and just play for fun.
Remember, the game has been enhanced to include the new high score system; a bow thruster on each boat; a GPS locator on the dashboard; and features such as "pause" and "mute" buttons. All are designed to make the game more fun.
It seems to be catching on. The game was featured in the April edition of Chesapeake Bay Magazine and the May issue of Sailing Magazine. We are flattered. But more important are the thousands of people who enjoy the game. The Docking Game has been played by almost 50,000 boaters since its launch last year – and that number is still growing.
We owe it all to guys like Ken, who is so good at the game that he owns many of the listings on the All Time board. He can definitely dock a boat, at least on screen.
We have notified Ken of his victory, and we plan to ask him how he did it. If we get any insights, we'll share them. Until then, one thing is certain. In it's intro screen, the game asks, "Can You Get Home?" We think Ken probably can.
