Saving a Lady

"I still have a depressingly-long "to do" list: Fit out the crew quarters; clean-up and paint the engine room; refurbish the galley and wheelhouse; convert the fish hold to cabins; rust bust, paint and fit-out the forward peak; finish rust-busing and painting the hull; install central heating; and add a black and grey water system.

I tell myself it will all get done. One day."

But isn't it fun :-)

I really enjoyed your article... trying to build a 28' footer has shown me a glimpse of how much must be involved on even larger scale boats. An early plan/dream of mine was similar to what you are doing (refurb an older craft), but I went a different path for now.

Hang in there and keep us informed (and enjoy those quite, nice times on the water!).

Tim Nolan's fine piece is a great read, and--for some of us--a painful one. Anyone bent on "saving" an old boat shouldn't forget this rule-of-thumb: Calculate carefully the worst-case estimate for what you think it will cost you and multiply by 7.534178. (Okay, you can round it off to 7.5 if you'd like...)

I don't think there's any flaw in that logic at all.

All hail the dreamer, but man...90 feet!
