Trailer Cruising

Great article!

Thanks much for this one... since my choice of which boat I'm building (http://www.madmariner.com/vessels/restorations/story/BUILD_062007_VR) was mostly driven by being trailerable, its nice to see a validation that this is a good way to enjoy the lifestyle.

Not to mention that Popeye is a great looking little boat. I came close to building a design that looks a lot like that (at times I wonder if I should have, but the added complexity of the cabin, etc. would have just added to the work).

I would love to see more about Popeye's adventures and where they cruise, etc. I'm going to be shallow draft and able to do more rivers, etc. than most.

Thanks, really enjoyed this one!

Bruce,

I have been in preliminary discussion with the editors about writing a regular column to showcase many of the BC Cruising popular anchorages from the southern Gulf Islands north through to the Inside Passage.  Our cruising logs with photos of this expansive area can be seen at www.writefromthesea.com.  Each summer we meet up with the owners of the Popeye, Ron and Sue Lange, somewhere in the waters off of central Vancouver Island and once a year at the Passage Maker Trawler Fest, this year to be held in Anacortes, Washington.  Ron also owns a twenty one foot Ranger tug that he is painting and detailing as the little sister to the Popeye.  Ron enters car shows and wins awards for his painting and restoration work.  He and his wife are wonderful people and really love their little boat.  If you ever find yourself near the Fraser River  in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver look us up.

Thanks for the post and the link... I checked out your site... very nice!

Look forward to reading more of your writing.

It will be a while (to put it mildly) before I can cruise that coast, but look forward to the opportunity.
