I am the original owner of a 1967 Sea Ray I/O, 17' with a 120 Mercruiser 4cyl engine. It is in near perfect condition, appearance wise. Over the years I have had and am currently having issues with the ignition. After a half trottle run of 10 mins. or so, the engine will usually start but quickly die as the shift lever is moved from neutral to forward. Sometimes it will not start unless I raise the choke lever resulting in a fast idle. This has been frustrating for some time over the 41 years I have owned it. I have replace the points, plugs, and condenser and set the timing to specs. New distibutor cap and rotor. New throttle linkage replaced last year. Carburetor rebuilt twice last year. New fuel pump and fuel filter. Engine starts quickly and runs well when cold. After it heats up, that's when it acts up. The engine is a Mercruiser 120 I/O (Chevy 153 cu. in). Trips to the marine repair shop have not fixed this problem. Anyone out there with suggestions or diagnosis?
