What are the best weather texts and reference sources for a boater? And if you can only have one weather book aboard, which would you choose and why? Is it available as a PDF download?

This is a hard question and an easy question all wrapped into one.  Let's start with the hard part first...weather books:

For more advanced readers...

International Marine's Weather Predicting Simplified: How to Read Weather Charts and Satellite Images by Michael Carr

and for more general readers...

 Mariner's Weather  by William Crawford

As for weather references...especially for day-trips on the open waters...I recommend NWS local forecasts and the NCEP Ocean Prediction Center's suite of products.
