To install a flexible bladder tank on your boat, take the following steps. Be sure to check on the manufacturer’s web site to see if there are additional installation procedures or special steps associated with breaking in a new tank.
1. Buy a tank that is suited to its intended contents, whether water, fuel or waste.
2. Pick the right location for installation, one with plenty of support and good access for repairs or removal.
3. Verify that there is nothing sharp in that area that could harm the tank.
4. Apply a layer of neoprene foam (the stuff used in wetsuits) foam to protect the tank.
5. Find the best location for fill, drain and vent lines.
6. Install fittings in the tank if they are not already installed.
7. Test the fittings for leaks.
8. Install eyebolts that will hold the tank in place (no sharp edges).
9. Place the tank in its intended location.
10. Run the fill, drain and vent lines and protect the hoses from chafing if they pass through bulkheads and other structures.
11. Fill up the tank and check for leaks again.
